Classes
KITE CLASSOfficial racing class at WISSA since 1993, and perhaps the most challenging of all racing classes . The rider generally has skis underfoot, and a kite high above for propulsion. Kite racing can be fast and raucous as the competitors jockey for position at the start and finish lines. The kites fill the sky with myriad colors as they glide across the course.

OPEN CLASSPowered by windsurfing rigs, and the driver of considerable innovation since its inception during the 1970s, Open Class racing - especially the Short Track Slalom [ STS]- provides real life thrills for spectators. Any type of windsurfing rig is attached to any kind of sled for competition. The only restriction is that the rider must be standing.
The variety of equipment on view highlights the diversity of thought and reaction to local conditions from the various nations on the start line. |
WING CLASSOfficial racing class at WISSA since 1991, the hand held wing class has seen an explosion in growth in the past 5 years. Once the smallest class, hand held wings are now one of the largest. The rider is free to choose between blades or skis for racing. Blades are generally in use if the ice is clear of snow and relatively smooth. Otherwise, skis are used underfoot, while the rider holds the wing in their hands.
